However, the effect of green manures on rice yields and quality in San Martin - Perú is still not well studied. The study was carried out at El Porvenir Agrarian Experimental Station - INIA in San Martín Perú to evaluate the effect of green manures on rice yield and comprised the evaluation of two sets of treatments: (1) green manure (Crotalaria juncea, Canavalia ensiforme, no green manure) (2) fertilizer dose (75% dose and 100% dose) laid out in a split-plot design with four replications. Our results showed that using Canavalia green manure significatively reduced the number of sick tillers afected by “white leaf rice virus” in 2.82 % compared with Control treatment. Besides, green manure treatments increased the tiller numbers at least in 1.19 % compared with Control treatment and also increased rice yield in at least 3.38 % compared with Control treatments. Moreover, green manure treatments did not show differences between medians for the nitrogen fertilization dose. Our results showed that using green manures can replace partially the use of nitrogen fertilizers without reducing rice yield.
