Quick answer

To calculate a wagering requirement, multiply the amount it applies to (the bonus alone, or bonus plus deposit) by the number of times required, then divide by the game contribution. This calculator does it in Canadian dollars instantly, so you can compare offers on real numbers.

A wagering requirement, also called play-through or rollover, is the amount you must stake before you can withdraw winnings from a bonus. A figure such as 35x sounds abstract until you turn it into dollars. If you want to compare every option, start with our best online casinos in Canada.

This calculator shows the total you would need to wager and how many times your deposit that represents.

How is a wagering requirement calculated?

The formula is: base amount times the multiplier, divided by the game's contribution. If the requirement applies only to the bonus, the base is the bonus. If it applies to bonus plus deposit, the base is both added together.

Example: a CAD 100 bonus with a 35x requirement on the bonus and 100 per cent contribution means CAD 3,500 in total bets. If you play a game that contributes only 10 per cent, the same requirement means CAD 35,000.

What is game contribution?

Games do not all count equally. Slots often count at 100 per cent, while blackjack, roulette and live dealer games may count 10 per cent or nothing. Some operators exclude certain slots entirely. The contribution table is in the bonus terms.

Game typeCommon contribution
Slots100% (some excluded)
Blackjack and other card games0% to 20%
Roulette0% to 20%
Live dealer0% to 10%

These ranges are typical, not universal. Check the actual terms.

What else should you check besides the multiplier?

  • The maximum bet allowed while the bonus is active.
  • The time limit for completing the requirement.
  • Games excluded and the cap on winnings from the bonus.
  • Whether the requirement applies to the bonus only or also to the deposit.

For more detail, read our guide to the wagering requirement and the page on casino bonuses.

Is a lower multiplier always better?

Usually, but not always. A 25x requirement with a one-day limit may be harder to complete than 40x with 30 days. Compare the total amount to wager, the limit on bets and the time allowed. A no deposit bonus often has a higher multiplier but needs no deposit, so the comparison changes.

Adults only: 19+ in most provinces, 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Online gambling involves risk. Play responsibly and set limits. This content is informational and is not legal or financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 35x wagering requirement high?

It depends on the bonus, the base and the time limit. A higher multiplier means more betting before you can withdraw. Compare the total amount in dollars, the maximum bet and the deadline. Use the calculator to see whether the total is realistic for your budget before accepting.

Can I withdraw before meeting the requirement?

Normally not. If you withdraw early, the casino can cancel the bonus and any winnings from it. Some operators let you forfeit the bonus and keep your deposit if you have not yet wagered it. Read the terms for this rule before you claim an offer.

Does the calculator work for free spins?

Yes, with an adjustment. Free spin winnings are often converted to a bonus balance that carries a wagering requirement. Enter the winnings as the bonus amount and the multiplier from the terms. Also check the maximum cashout allowed on free spin winnings.
